Test Report

Tea maker

Tea makers are supposed to make brewing tea or herbal infusions particularly easy. Several specific temperature settings are implemented in the devices, which can be used for different types of tea. The Eta tea maker is actually nothing more than a kettle with temperature selection in which a tea strainer can be inserted. The temperature levels 40, 60, 70, 80 and 100 °C are available. So if you like to brew your black tea at 85 or 90 °C, you're out of luck with the Eta. The same applies to the Wilfa. Here, the filter system is better thought out, but only four temperature levels between 40 and 100°C are available. The Russell Hobbs is completely different: with 13 different options, the appliance leaves hardly anything to be desired. These include temperature settings for black, oolong, white and green tea as well as hibiscus or pu-erh. The Gastro-back Design Tea Aroma Plus scores with a very similar range, but the appliance has a higher-quality finish. However, it holds the negative record of the entire test field: it takes a whopping 6 minutes to heat the water to 100°C. Otherwise, the appliance is recommendable. Otherwise, the appliance is recommendable. And what about its big brother, the Gastroback Tea Automat? This tea maker is the absolute top model tested - even if it is by far the most expensive. But not without reason: The Tea Automat is the only device in the test field with a brewing function. The water in the pot is heated to the desired temperature. Only then is the tea strainer drained into the water via the lowering mechanism. When the set brewing time is over, the tea strainer is raised again by means of the lifting arm. 12 temperature levels from 50 to 100°C are preset. In addition, there are programmes for green, black, herbal, oolong and white tea, as well as five other programmes that can be independently de?ned. So if you want to enjoy your nigiri black tea from Sri Lanka at 87 °C and a brewing time of 3.20 min, you can set this precisely and save it. And if you want to save time in the morning, you can programme the machine in the evening so that the tea is ready to drink or fill at the desired time. A keep-warm function can also be programmed as desired.
