- Class image quality, up to ISO3200
- Powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF system
- Compact and lightweight camera body despite the large full-frame sensor
- Inexpensive entry into full-frame photography
- No integrated image stabiliser
- Short battery life (250 photos according to CIPA)
The lowest-priced camera in the Canon R system lacks almost nothing that is needed for ambitious photography in 35mm format. The only thing you have to do without is an integrated image stabiliser, which Canon only offers with the R6. The RP, which is particularly small and light in relation to its sensor size, receives our "compact 35mm" recommendation.
- Great image quality, which only deteriorates visibly above ISO 3,200
- Powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF system
- 4K video only with crop factor
The EOS RP does not have to hide from the much more expensive EOS R in terms of image quality. Only the somewhat weak battery and the limitations in video recording tarnish the otherwise very good overall image of the camera. A good choice for EOS fans.
What impressed us most about the slim Canon EOS RP was the simple operating concept with touch display and few buttons. It appeals to photographers who like to work with semi- or full-automatics instead of adjusting manually. The measured values are decent, but the aggressive standard noise reduction is conspicuous, resulting in strikingly soft JPEG images...
