Two new functions: WhatsApp wants to expand data protection
The messenger service introduces two new features: WhatsApp now has a privacy check and unknown calls can be muted.
WhatsApp and data protection: not always a good match. The messenger service wants to change this - and is introducing two new functions to do so.
This is the privacy check
With the new privacy check, users should be "aware of all the security options that WhatsApp offers", according to the company in the message.

The function guides you through the privacy settings and is designed to help you choose the right settings. Click "Start check" to be guided through the process. According to WhatsApp, the settings are designed to increase the security of messages, calls and personal data.
The "Personal data" section is particularly interesting. In the check, however, I can only specify who can see my online status or my profile picture. However, I cannot set which of my data is stored or shared with Meta.
Mute unknown calls
The second function of WhatsApp concerns unknown, i.e. usually unwanted, calls. These can be muted by default.

The function is intended to better protect against spam and scam calls, according to WhatsApp. The muted calls are displayed in the call list - just in case there is something important among them. However, there will be no annoying ringing on the phone.
WhatsApp says it is constantly expanding its privacy settings. For example, self-deleting messages, the screenshot blocking or the option to protect individual chats with a password.
