Hasselblad could be key partner for Oppo Find X5 Pro
A leaked photo of the Oppo Find X5 Pro reveals a word that’ll get the hearts of camera fans racing: Hasselblad.
An image leaked by the blog RealmiCentral depicts the supposedly finalised version of the Oppo Find X5 Pro.
And a Hasselblad camera system.
With the Find X5 Pro, it’s clear what Oppo wants to achieve: having the best camera on the market. All roads are pointing in the right direction. Because its most recent predecessor, the Find X3 Pro, did very well with no-name components and strong software. Hasselblad is a strong partner for camera systems. One of the first photography companies in the world, the formerly Swedish-owned manufacturer has been on the market since 1841 – and has even sent cameras to the moon. The company has since been absorbed by Chinese drone manufacturer DJI. By working with OnePlus last year, Hasselblad has already shown its willingness to gain a foothold in the world of smartphones.
If Oppo does use Hasselblad software, the difference to the quality of the lenses could deliver significantly better images. One look at the competition shows that Huawei, with its Leica lenses and now pretty dated software, still produces images that give its rivals a run for their money. They seem crisper and sharper, and the camera AI doesn’t have to do as much softening or line correction. In short, a partner that makes qualitatively good lenses can make a world of difference.
Hardware or software? That is the question.
If Oppo really is collaborating with Hasselblad, a question arises: is it solely about software, or is hardware on the agenda too? Hasselblad has indeed worked with OnePlus in the past, but only with colour figurations and built-in software components.
We might expect to see some differences in the software side of the Oppo Find X5 Pro, which weren’t as apparent with Oppo’s affiliated brand OnePlus. Alongside the Hasselblad components, Oppo built its own graphic chip for the first time: the MariSilicon X. This chip supports the rest of the system-on-a-chip, but above all, takes care of the image editing – which is where the Oppo Find X3 Pro really shone.
The parent company is bringing its flagship products closer together
Hasselblad found its way to Oppo through OnePlus; both are subsidiaries of BBK Electronics. In summer 2021, the parent company announced that the flagship brands would be teaming up. As a result, Oppo’s Android-Distro ColorOS will also be running on OnePlus smartphones in the future.
