Apple Music Classical for Android is here

Since the end of March, Apple Music Classical - Apple's separate app for classical music - has been available. As of today, it is also available on Android. This is the first time that Apple has made classical music available outside of its own platform - you have been able to download the "normal" Music app for Android for a long time.

By the way, Apple has made classical music available on the rival platform before it has fully catered for its own ecosystem; there is no dedicated classical app on iPads or Macs yet.

This is Apple Music Classical

The Classical app differs from the normal Music app - apart from the genre - primarily in its navigation, font and search data. Apple Music Classical was originally created by the Dutch streaming service Primephonic, which was known for its search functions; Apple acquired the service in 2021 and subsequently discontinued it.

The acquired search function enables a better search for pieces based on composers, works, conductors, orchestras or catalogue numbers. Apple Music Classical offers over five million tracks, including many exclusive albums.

In addition, the service streams in Hi-Res Lossless with up to 192 kHz at 24 bit and supports Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos for selected tracks - this makes the pieces sound a little more like you're sitting in a concert hall, as a digital surround sound is generated.

To use Classical, you need an Apple Music subscription. Unlike Spotify, there is no free offer with adverts. The Android version requires Android 9 or higher. It is available worldwide where Apple Music is offered - except in China, Japan, Korea, Russia and Taiwan.
