No. To charge it, you open it on one side and plug it into the USB slot. This works great, unlike in the past. You can also take off the wristband on both sides, but then the USB contact is "open" and would certainly soon be damaged. That's why in reality you can only walk around with the wristband (or half of it), otherwise it will soon break and/or break off. At least I haven't found an alternative yet.
