Via Google Maps, you can download map sections with Wi-Fi and then use them without a network connection. That's why I bought it and we travelled for a month with the tablet as our navigation system. It worked great.

I don't have any special software. With network coverage and Google Maps, it works flawlessly. Admittedly, it's expensive abroad. Maybe there is a software that only uses GPS, but I don't know and don't need it.
