In fact, it is so handy that it is always ready for action and ideal for dynamic video recordings with a gimbal. Special optical glasses ensure an optimally corrected, sharp, and detailed image. The short minimum focusing distance – just 15 cm at the shortest focal length and 24 cm at the longest focal length – allows for spectacular close-ups that you wouldn’t have thought possible. Regardless of the shooting distance, the RXD (Rapid Extra Silent Stepping Drive) autofocus motor focuses precisely and quickly on the subject. The focusing is almost completely silent; thus, no distracting operational noises are recorded during video shoots.

... The 800-euro wide-angle zoom shows very good resolution and contrast values at 11 mm centre, but the edge drop of the contrast is clearly too high at both measured apertures. The 11 mm focal length corresponds to 15 mm on a KB sensor. At 15 mm, the values for the centre of the image are also very good, but again drop slightly when stopped down...

- The Tamron is compact, lightweight and has a high-quality finish. Performance in the test was excellent in terms of resolution and AF speed.
- The compactness is also based on the lack of an image stabiliser. Unfortunately, not all APS-C Sony cameras have their own anti-shake system.
The new Tamron 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD combines an exceptional focal length range that calls for creative image composition with high performance. In view of the excellent test results as well as the very good workmanship, the price is quite fair.
The fast Tamron 2.8/11-20 mm Di III-A RXD for APS-C is not only mechanically but also optically very good.
