When it comes to image quality alone, the Sony Alpha 5000 is one of the best cameras in its class. It shines with high-quality images, but takes its time in doing so. There are also some limitations in terms of features and operation.
The Sony Alpha 5000 looks very appealing, but above all it impresses with a very good price/performance ratio. The price-performance ratio here is convincing, but there are drawbacks in terms of features and speed.
Good, very small system camera without viewfinder. Particularly good in the eye test. Extremely light and relatively flat for a high-quality camera.

- Expandability via camera apps
- Set lens with motorised zoom/zoom rocker on the camera
- Excellent image quality (but weaknesses in the lens)
- Practical automatic functions
- Programme selector wheel and quick menu missing
- Low continuous shooting rate

- Very good image quality & high resolution at ISO 100-200, even ISO 400-800 still very good
- Still good image quality in the high ISO range (over ISO 1,600)
- Well-made camera housing
- Snapshot-ready: Fast autofocus (0.33 sec.), very short shutter release delay (0.01 sec.)
- The display can be flipped up 180 degrees (good for self-portraits)
- Full and semi-automatic modes and manual exposure mode available
It should be clear that the cheapest camera in the test field cannot keep up with the high-priced competition. Nevertheless, the compact Sony offers good features with a high-resolution flip-up monitor and WLAN unit. The image quality can also be rated as good and the price-performance ratio is excellent.
