Far behind in competition ... (after using for a month, changed my mind ... never waste your money on this product)

Unfortunately, this part somewhat maltreats the product category NAS and what is generally understood by it. WD's choice of "Cloud" as the name for NAS systems was a glorious second. This really is *pure* cloud storage. Intended as a replacement for Dropbox & Co. but quite misleading as the "real" models are also called that. Without HOME's own app, nothing works, really nothing. Strictly speaking, it is a network attached storage, which is what my USB stick shared in the network would be.

Terrible product, Many promises which are not kept. Does not work on OS X 10.6.8. On OS X 10.11.6 Time Machine does not work properly

After just one week, this NAS was returned to me. What it has to offer is ridiculous. And the Windows app... I haven't seen anything so buggy in a long time.

The cloud drive I use for my movies, the only problem is only without app from WD I can not access the movies via tablet or the Plex app on the Sony TV. In Windows I see the storage as a drive. One star deduction because I can not access the drive with the IP address, and I am forced to install an app.

It depends on what you expect from a NAS. Managing data or better folders on MyCloud only really works for the administrator. If, for example, you have employees with whom you want to share documents in a small company, this only works via the bumpy, unergonomic web solution; in the file manager, despite assigning the necessary rights, none of the folders are displayed, or only those that the employee has created himself, but no one else can see them (despite assigning the corresponding rights).

At the time of writing all users have been locked out for 2-3 days due to a security breach. This means, that despite it being called "My Cloud", it isn't. I haven't been able to access any of my files since Monday 03.04.2023 and there is no fix in sight.

Synchronisation does not work at all. When Sync starts for once, it always starts from the beginning, no chance with many files. I have removed almost all folders in the hope that at least the most important ones work. But no, it does not.

Unfortunately, absolutely unusable.

The device is not to be used. Constant access problems, whether from PC, TV, tablet, mobile phone. Always new problems, I will now take the thing apart to use the hard drive in the PC. I could have had it much cheaper. And another thing: The speed of access is very reminiscent of DOS times. I suspect that all the data goes through NSA check servers or something similar. Copy speed max 2MB /sec, with pauses between files. How sick is that??

The product is easy to install and also works with Apple Time Machine, but only "unencrypted" backup is supported. For "encrypted" backup, you have to buy the "My Cloud" version (i.e. without Home). It is a pity that it was not explicitly mentioned...

It's good to have your own cloud, to protect your data yourself, and above all reassuring, it's a shame that the software isn't a bit easier to use.

I bought the thing to supplement/replace my MyCloud with Raid.
Unfortunately, the straeming doesn't work nearly as well as on the old HW. The highly praised 'simple' copying of data from the MyCloud does not work at all.
I now have an HDD standing around for CHF 250 that doesn't really harmonise with Linux either - unfortunately a bad buy!

Hard disk removed and inserted into another NAS.

NAS is an inaccurate description. It is a cloud server whose access security and password are 100% managed by Western Digital Corporation. The admin apps offered by WD do not work! No direct data communication within your local network - it runs over the internet. No way to set up your own firewalls or manage power saving features. User shares and access permissions cannot be managed. The device does what it wants. It rumbles for hours and reorders files. Very annoying.

Unfortunately, you can't use it without an internet connection, not even directly as an external hard drive via USB. I wanted to have an internal network without an external connection. Unfortunately, that's not possible with it. I have now bought a Synology, which works without problems.

Unusable for serious work with it.
- Very slow access to large folders and files.
- Constant interruptions in data transfer.
- Can only be used if the WD-Discovery SW is installed and an account is created at WD. Ergo, no direct connection to Windows possible.
With the predecessor this was no problem. I cannot recommend the new generation. I will now switch to Synology products.... Goodbye WD -> I will sell it on Tutti.

Assign a static IP address? No is not possible. You should rather reconfigure your DHCP server. That's fun and enjoyable.
The part looks best without power. Shapely and pretty; as an accountant, the ideal Christmas present.
