Best price/performance ratio!
I currently use the lens on the Canon EOS 7D (18MP APS-C).
The lens makes very sharp images. At 250mm, it's best to stop down to F8 for the best result.
But even at open aperture it is sharp enough for my needs. Test sites prove the high sharpness from open aperture.
The image quality is almost the same as the predecessor Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS (without STM).
Due to the STM (stepper motor), the lens is very fast in focusing and virtually silent!
As with the kit (18-55mm IS), the build quality is not that great. Everything is made of low quality plastic, even the bayonet mount. But what makes it not unstable! On the contrary! Since it is a little flexible, it absorbs shocks better than much more expensive L-lenses made of metal. Ev. a tad better processed than the Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS (without STM).
In terms of weight & size, it is very compact and lightweight, so you can always take the lens with you, even if you do not yet know whether you will need it at all or not.
Vignetting is low. It has never bothered me.
The autofocus is very fast. It's even good for tracking autofocus, for fast sports pictures. The autofocus is almost silent.
The image stabilizer works very well, about 3 f-stops could be in there.
Better in image quality than this lens is the Canon EF 70-200mm F4.0 IS USM, but it costs disproportionately more. (Canon 70-200mm F4 IS USM costs over 1000Fr!).
For this lens I sold my old Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS (without STM). I do not regret the switch.
Conclusion: For the money by far the best telephoto zoom lens for Canon APS-C cameras!
The STM version is worth the money, as long as sports shots are taken, or autofocus speed is a factor. The STM version is also preferable to the old one for video recording.

An incredibly silent lens: I like it!
With this lens, I am finally able to take satisfying photos with my Canon EOS 1100D camera. Distant subjects can be captured well. Thanks to the image stabiliser, sharp pictures are possible even without a tripod, despite a shaky hand. Thanks to autofocus, it is also suitable for people who wear glasses. The motorised zoom works absolutely noiselessly, you hear nothing at all! What a difference to the supplied lens.
