The latest Apple updates are available. What’s included in iOS 14.7? Support for the new battery packs, few new features and some bug fixes.

It's Apple update day once again. This time even in combination with new hardware: the new operating system version iOS 14.7 supports the MagSafe Battery Packs that Apple recently introduced and that will be available soon. With the new update, iPhone 12 users can use the Battery Packs and will no longer run out of battery power as fast as they used to.

HomePod owners get a new timer management feature. This allows them to set multiple timers in the Home app, as well as set them from the iPhone or iPad and manage them on both devices.

The often-criticised podcast app has also been updated. In the library, users can now choose whether they want to see all the shows that are displayed there or only the ones they follow. Unsurprisingly, the new updates hardly contain any additional new features before the release of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

These bugs are fixed

With the release of lossless audio playback, some users experienced the problem that their music kept stopping. Apple claims to have fixed this with the update. The «Share playlist» menu option, which was missing in Apple Music, has also been added.

Furthermore, the battery maintenance message that erroneously appeared on some iPhone 11s after a restart is supposed to have been eliminated.

iOS 14.7 has also fixed a bug that caused the iPhone's WLAN to stop working when connected to a WLAN network that contained the cryptic characters «%p%s%s%s%s%n». Users who connected to such a network experienced massive problems.

Currently, Apple's security updates page says the latest version of iPadOS is still 14.6, so iPad users may have to wait a little longer for the update to roll out to their devices. You can update your phone by going to the «Settings» app, clicking «General» and then «Software update». Apple is also rolling out tvOS 14.7 and watchOS 7.6 today.

Testing devices and gadgets is my thing. Some experiments lead to interesting insights, others to demolished phones. I’m hooked on series and can’t imagine life without Netflix. In summer, you’ll find me soaking up the sun by the lake or at a music festival.
