Déjà vu: Birkenstock brings back "Boston" and "Arizona" with studs

The "Arizona" sandals and "Boston" clogs from Birkenstock are (figuratively speaking) a firm favourite. They have long been part of every well-stocked shoe rack, are often on sale and, due to their great popularity, are not shy about driving up their own price a little.

So now you could sit back and relax at home.

You could now sit back at Birkenstock and watch the sales figures continue to rise. After all, the shop is running. But to make sure we don't get bored, there's a small yet decisive innovation to the admittedly very minimalist comfort sandals just in time for the party season.

"Rivet" is the name of the new editions of both models. To put it in a nutshell, this is exactly the kind of rivet that now stretches along their suede. "Precisely set, particularly firm without a counterpart, but not pressed too deeply into the leather", says birkenstock.com - so that nothing really bothers or rubs when walking. Yay. In terms of colour, the company is starting off modestly in the studded business with black, taupe and acai. The price is more daring: the classic "Arizona Rivet" strap is priced at 220 francs, while the "Boston Rivet", which is closed over the toes, costs 245 francs.

In February 2003, none other than top model Heidi Klum presented her first, limited Birkenstock collaboration. Their Unique Selling Point, you guessed it: Studs. And glittering stones. What was polarising at the time - Birkenstocks were still struggling with a stubbornly uncool, eco image - is now proving to be (one might almost say) visionary.
