Critics have been choosing the "Game of the Year" since 1979. In 2022, "Cascadia" is in the running for the coveted award - according to the jury, because it is a true feel-good game.
"Cascadia" has won. It is the "Game of the Year 2022. This tile-matching game from the Kosmos publishing house involves recreating the landscape of the Pacific Northwest of America and populating it with various animal species.
Why did "Cascadia" prevail over the other nominees - "Scout" and "Top Ten"? The jury gave the following reasons:
«Cascadia ist ein wahres Wohlfühlspiel. Die Spielzüge sind immer belohnend, selbst wenn die angebotene Auswahl nicht immer passend liegt. Besonders gelungen ist die zweigeteilte Puzzle-Aufgabe, für die eine gute Balance zwischen den passenden Landschaften mit den richtigen Tiersymbolen gefunden werden muss. Für die hohe Wiederspielbarkeit sorgen die modularen Regelkarten, die die Spielenden jede Runde vor neue Herausforderungen stellen.»
Connoisseur's game of the year
In addition to the "Game of the Year", the jury also presents an award for the "Connoisseur's Game of the Year". These games are aimed at more experienced players. They are more complex and usually more time-consuming than conventional parlor games. The winner in this category was "Living Forest" from Pegasus.
